Beaujolais

Overview

Mostly red wine made from Gamay made using carbonic maceration, although there is a growing trend to also make wine in the traditional Burgundian method. There are three levels are Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages and Cru Beaujolais. Though it may be most famous for its Nouveau Beaujolais, which is bottled within weeks of fermentation and released the third Thursday of November (accompanied by heavy marketing and promotion), the majority of Beaujolais wines are released the following year and some, particularly Cru Beaujolais, are quite age-worthy.
