Certified Specialist of Wine Online Classes
The Society of Wine Educators will be offering online classes for the Certified Specialist of Wine designation on a quarterly basis. They will be taught by Jane Nickles, Director of Education and Certification. Each session will be 12 weeks long. There is no additional charge, but one must be a member of the Society ($135.00 per year). The plan is to offer both and early morning and evening classes running concurrently. Please contact Len Presutti for further details.
The Society of Wine Educators currently has two different levels of wine certification, the CSW (Certified Specialist of Wine) and the CWE (Certified Wine Educator). The Certified Specialist of Wine designation is attained by taking a multiple choice exam which comes entirely from the extensive and often updated Society published Study Guide. The Certified Wine Educator exam questions can come from any published source. In addition, it also involves an essay as well as a practical tasting section session, which consists of wine identification as well as the recognition of specific wine faults. Candidates must successfully demonstrate their ability to present on a wine topic, selected from the approved list of themes, in front of a live audience. Candidates must pass all written and tasting portions of the exam prior to giving this presentation.
The Society also hosts a yearly conference with seminars conducted by Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and various wine luminaries.
This year’s Conference will be held in Washington, DC at the Mayflower Hotel from August 14th to 16th, 2019. Our own Len Presutti will again be presenting a Food and Wine Matching Seminar.
