Modesto's E. & J. Gallo Winery plans to buy Courtside Cellars, a winery with 34 acres of land in San Miguel.

Gallo, started in 1933 by Ernest and Julio Gallo, didn't say what it will pay in this deal.

The purchase includes the 12-year-old winery and a facility that can crush 60,000 tons of grapes.

Roger Nabedian, who runs Gallo's premium wine division, said the purchase is part of the company's plans to expand on the central coast.

Gallo bought some 300 acres of vineyards in Monterey County earlier this year. In 2011 it bought Edna Valley Vineyards and in 2004 it bought Bridlewood Estate Winery in Santa Barbara County's Santa Ynez Valley.

Courtside Cellars is keeping a facility in San Luis Obispo.

Demeter Group in San Francisco advised Gallo on the deal.
