    The 2008 Pinot Noir, which spent 9 months in 27% new French oak, is medium ruby-colored and displays an alluring bouquet of black cherry and black raspberry with hints of game and spice box in the background. On the palate this medium-bodied effort exhibits excellent varietal character, a silky texture, cherry and plum flavors, and incipient complexity. Give it 2-3 years of additional bottle age and drink it from 2011 to 2020.

    Fresher on the nose than the Napa bottling, offering cassis, bitter chocolate and roasted herbs. Then very ripe and dense but suave, showing good energy and a slightly clenched middle palate. The tannins are serios and granular, but here there's plenty of supporting mid-palate material. This may well merit a highter score three or four years down the road.

    Probably the best they have made to date, the 2007 Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits an exuberance, richness, and intensity that belie a production of 155,000 cases. Coming entirely from Jess Jackson’s vineyards, the final blend – 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot – is sourced primarily from Sonoma and Napa, with a small percentage from Mendocino. This wine is a beauty, with ripe berry fruit, as well as hints of cedarwood, tobacco leaf, licorice, and plenty of black currants and black cherries. This wine should drink nicely for 5-6 years, possibly even longer.

    Zenato's 2009 Pinot Grigio is a very pretty white with excellent varietal character. Despite the IGT delle Venezie appellation that provides a wide choice of regions from which to source grapes, this is one Pinot Grigio that delivers real character at a fair price.
